The January Adult Craft workshop runs from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on January 21 at the Altadena Library satellite branch housed within the park’s Social Hall at 3330 N. Lincoln Avenue in Altadena. The program is part of the library’s “Adult Crafternoon” series, which has provided free creative activities throughout the recovery period.
What makes Wednesday’s workshop particularly significant is where it takes place. Loma Alta Park, shuttered and scarred by fire damage, has transformed into what county officials call a “super park”—a reimagined community anchor that reopened in May approximately four months after the fire. The satellite library operates within the park’s Social Hall alongside a new senior center, the “Alta Chat” community hub, accessible playgrounds, youth sports programs, and early childhood services.
The Altadena Library District, whose buildings survived the January fire that burned 14,021 acres and destroyed 9,414 structures, moved quickly to establish programming at the park location as part of the community’s broader recovery strategy.
For residents interested in attending, the Altadena Library District can be reached at (626) 798-0833 for details on registration and materials. The satellite location keeps regular hours: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
