A morning of community programming tying recreation and civic input to Altadena’s recovery from the Eaton Fire is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday, May 31, at Altadena Triangle Park.
Billed by organizers as “Activate Altadena: Golden Poppy Celebration,” the event is co-hosted by the Altadena Bicycle Club, Lotus Rising LA and Altadena CoLab, in partnership with Altadena Heritage. It is built around Altadena Heritage’s Golden Poppy Awards, which recognize the community’s most beautifully tended gardens and the neighbors who care for them. Organizers say participant feedback will directly inform the Altadena Town Trail & Greenway Initiative, a community-driven effort to reconnect Altadena through a multimodal trail network as the community rebuilds after the fire.
According to the official Luma event listing, the schedule opens at 9 a.m. with the Golden Poppy Community Bike Ride and community visioning and mapping. A guided walk demonstration departs at 10 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by a transit tour featuring Line 662 and the Triangle Park hub, when bike riders return. A community picnic lunch and a Triangle Park garden tour begin at noon, with activations continuing until the event closes at 1 p.m.
Organizers describe the Golden Poppy Bike Ride as the inaugural edition and the newest addition to the Altadena Town Trail series. The ride is free and open to all ages, according to Lotus Rising LA’s event page, though organizers say the route and time are still to be announced. It is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists Spark Grant and DENA Hive.
The bike ride and picnic lunch require RSVP; the walk, transit tour, garden tour and visioning activities are drop-in. Onsite seating is limited; organizers ask picnic attendees to bring a chair or blanket. RSVP is available at goldenpoppybikeride.
Triangle Park sits at the southwest corner of Lake Avenue and Altadena Drive, behind El Patron Restaurant. Additional community partners listed by organizers include Altadena Village Partners, SGV Green Circle, Amigos de los Rios and Dena Hive Consortium.
Organizers say a follow-on event — Austin’s Rails To Trails Mural Unveiling, which they describe as “the largest Mural in Altadena,” on the Altadena Crest Trail east of Canon Boulevard — is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
