Roy Ritchie, Senior Research Associate at The Huntington in San Marino, is conducting a four-part lecture series starting on Wednesday, Sept. 21 that examines the art and architecture of the Revolution and Early Republic.
The talks, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon the next four Wednesdays, will then move on to consider topics including landscape, genre and history painting as American artists struggled to create a distinctive American art separate from the greater European metropolitan art scene.
Ritchie also reflects on how the art market was evolving up to about 1860. The series continues through Oct. 12 at The Huntington’s Haaga Hall.
Tickets are $80 to $95.
