Since 2006, the Pasadena Civic Auditorium has been where “America’s Got Talent” does its judging, and on August 18 the show returns to the 2,997-seat hall for the part of the season that decides things.

Season 21’s live shows begin Tuesday, the first of nine taping dates at 300 E. Green St. that run into September. Forty-four acts advanced out of the audition and callback rounds. From here the outcome shifts from the judges to the viewing public, with performance episodes on Tuesdays followed by results episodes on Wednesdays.

Audience seats are free but must be reserved in advance through On Camera Audiences, and they go quickly. Two arrival windows are listed for Tuesday, at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.; ticket holders are asked to choose one, which keeps the line outside the theater manageable. Seat assignments are handed out on arrival. Tapings run three to four hours, and the minimum age is eight.

Producers ask attendees to dress for the cameras — solid, bold colors, no patterns or logos, no shorts or open-toed shoes — and the venue bars clothing carrying profanity and accessories with spikes. Be prepared to stand and sit for extended stretches.

Judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara and Mel B return for the season, with Terry Crews hosting. The auditorium, opened in 1932, has housed the show since its debut and the Primetime Emmy Awards before that.
