Angel Gala Shines a Light on Those Who Help Cancer Patients Feel Less Alone

The Langham Huntington Pasadena was once again filled with warmth, generosity, and purpose on Saturday, April 18, as the Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley hosted its 36th Annual Angel Gala. Under the theme “Where Hope Blooms,” the evening brought together community leaders, healthcare professionals, philanthropists, and devoted supporters for a night that was equal parts celebration and meaningful tribute. The gala raised a record-breaking $800,000, providing critical funding for CSC’s free programs and services.

ABC7 News’ Rachel Brown guided guests through the evening, leading a program that wove together a VIP reception, dinner, an awards presentation, live and silent auctions, a raffle, and a joyful close of music and dancing — the kind of night that reminds attendees why they return year after year.

At the heart of the gala was the recognition of those whose leadership and generosity have helped sustain the organization’s mission. Ellen and Harvey Knell received the evening’s Lifetime Achievement honor, a reflection of their enduring commitment to both the Cancer Support Community and the broader community it serves. LeeAnn and Ron Havner of the JCS Family Foundation were recognized as Individual Honorees.

Architectural firm Flewelling & Moody received the Corporate Partner honor. Huntington Health was celebrated as Hospital Partner Honoree, recognized for decades of meaningful collaboration.

For Patricia Ostiller, chief executive officer of Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley, the gala represents something larger than a single evening of fundraising. The event was brought to life by CSC’s dedicated volunteer Guild, whose commitment has kept the gala going for more than three decades. This year’s event committee co-chairs — Korie Beth Brown, Ph.D., Matt Frey, and Susan Hubert — helped shepherd another memorable evening that reminded the San Gabriel Valley community just how much can bloom when people come together.
