The “Drawing from the Gallery” program invites participants to sketch in front of actual artworks during special after-hours sessions conducted by accomplished instructors Richard E. Scott and Robert Sherrill. Classes rotate between the Huntington Art Gallery, which houses European masterworks including Thomas Lawrence’s “Pinkie” and Thomas Gainsborough’s “The Blue Boy,” and the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art.
“All supplies and materials are included,” according to program details. Suitable for all levels with “no previous experience necessary,” the eight-session program begins Wednesday, February 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Subsequent sessions continue through June 17.
Scott, an artist who has taught at The Huntington, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, and universities including UCLA and ArtCenter College of Design, brings extensive experience to the program. He published “Sketching—from Square One to Trafalgar Square” in 2013.
Sherrill, a Southern California artist, works in watercolor and oil, “capturing the effects of light, shape, and color.” After graduating from ArtCenter in 1990, he worked as an illustrator and art director before teaching figure and plein air painting locally.
Participants will stand and sit in gallery spaces, though “gallery stools will be provided.” Attendees should bring registration confirmation and check in at Admission window #10 at 5 p.m. Tickets are not sold at the door.
Drawing from the Gallery will run on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino.
