Published on Oct 13, 2024

In celebration of Walktober and National Arts & Humanities Month, Pasadena is set to showcase its rich cultural heritage through a Public Art Walking Tour. The event, part of the city’s seventh annual Walktober initiative, aims to promote walking while highlighting Pasadena’s commitment to public art and cultural enrichment.

“Attendees will have an opportunity to explore the stories behind some of the City’s most iconic public artworks, learn about the artists who created them, and gain insight into how public art enhances the cultural fabric and visual landscape of Pasadena,” said Jennifer Paige, Director of Planning & Community Development.

The tour is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., starting and ending at the Pasadena Robinson Memorial, located at 95 N. Garfield Avenue.

Councilmember Justin Jones and Cultural Affairs Staff will lead participants on a 2.5-mile journey, featuring notable public artworks commissioned under the City’s Private Development and Civic Public Art Programs. This new walking tour will showcase art installations not visited on previous walks or rides.

This free event is open to the public, but registration is required due to limited space. Interested individuals can register at www.WalktoberPasadena.org. For accessibility accommodations, attendees can contact (626) 744-7311 or CSC@cityofpasadena.net.

The Public Art Walking Tour is one of many activities organized throughout October for Walktober, an international initiative encouraging walking for health, social connection, and appreciation of urban spaces. This year marks Pasadena’s 7th year of participation. The city’s Walktober is sponsored by the Department of Transportation in partnership with Day One and the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition.

Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes, sunblock, and a hat. They should also bring water and a snack for the two-hour tour.
