A painter trained at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena opens a free solo exhibition Saturday at the SPARC Centre Gallery in South Pasadena, offering residents on both sides of the city line a chance to see work rooted in decades of character doodling.

The show, called “The Aart Show,” runs June 6 through June 27. An opening reception is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, when the public is invited to meet the artist.

Daniel Peacock, a graduate of ArtCenter whose hillside Pasadena campus sits roughly three miles from the SPARC gallery, has been drawing expressive characters since childhood. According to SPARC, he began doodling at age 6. The work on view spans painting, drawing, sculpture, and storytelling, with bold colors and what SPARC describes as whimsical narrative elements woven through each piece.

SPARC, in its description of Peacock’s background, identifies him as an accomplished film and animation director who has created work for clients including Disney, Nickelodeon, Nike, and KCRW. Peacock’s work for KCRW posters and a reusable bag for the public radio station is documented on the station’s website.

Peacock’s previous gallery appearances in the region include shows at Mendenhall-Sobieski Gallery in Pasadena, La Luz de Jesus in Los Angeles, and BGH Gallery in Santa Monica, according to his published artist biography.

This is Peacock’s second solo show with a SPARC venue. His 2022 exhibition, “ZooZeum,” opened at the SPARC Gallery on Mission Street in South Pasadena and featured the same playful character work that defines his practice.

The South Pasadena Arts Council, a nonprofit founded in 2009, operates two gallery spaces in the city. The SPARC Centre Gallery, located inside the Fremont Centre building, opened in 2024 and serves as the organization’s primary exhibition space.

The gallery is at 1000 Fremont Ave., Suite 120, South Pasadena. The entrance is off the rear parking lot. For information, call 626-789-5605 or visit sopasartscouncil.org.

“The Aart Show celebrates creativity, curiosity, and the joy of artistic discovery,” SPARC said in its announcement of the exhibition.
