The Pasadena Sister Cities Committee will feature Dr. Aaron I. Bruce, vice president and chief diversity officer at ArtCenter College of Design, in the committee’s Speaker Series at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 8, on Zoom.
Bruce will speak on the topic, “Global Citizen — An Educational Journey.”
With more than 20 years of experience leading initiatives focused on campus diversity, inclusion and international engagement, Bruce joined ArtCenter in 2018 to lead the establishment of its new Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Art and Design.
Since 2008, Bruce served as the chief diversity officer at San Diego State University where he led the implementation of that university’s diversity strategic plan.
As an International Multicultural Institute-certified diversity trainer, Bruce has facilitated numerous professional development seminars and held management positions in Latin America and Africa. His international interest led to service projects and research on management strategies, public health and education in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, and Kenya.
Bruce holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Michigan State University, where he also earned a Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. He also holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island Doctoral Program in Education, the first African American male to hold such a distinction. He also has a master’s degree in international business administration from United States International University (Alliant).
Bruce lives by the motto, “awaken the sleep, protect the weak, and guide the strong.”
