As ICE Raids Hit Latino Kitchens Hardest, DINE Latino Rallies Diners to the Restaurants That Built LA

Citywide event launches May 12 with 200+ restaurants across 20+ Latin American cuisines

The Latino Restaurant Association (LRA) today previewed DINE Latino Restaurant Week 2026, a citywide event running May 12 through May 24 that will showcase more than 200 Latino restaurants across 20+ Latin American cuisines. It is the largest effort LRA has launched in support of Latino restaurant owners to date.

The event arrives during one of the hardest stretches Latino restaurants have ever faced. In 2025, 84.8% of LA restaurants reported business decreased, and 66% of LA County food service workers are immigrants, 79% of them Latino, meaning that when the industry takes a hit, the Latino community absorbs it first.

In response, LRA has reimagined DINE Latino to drive diners back to the kitchens that built this city. Featured participants include Lugyá’h, recently named one of “The 25 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles Right Now” by The New York Times, and Fuegos LA, whose co-founder designed the interior of Bad Bunny’s casita for the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.

“It’s been one of the hardest years for Latino restaurants in LA. Every owner I work with has carried their staff, their families, their entire neighborhoods. DINE Latino drives diners back to the kitchens that built this city, and shows up for the kitchens that have always shown up for us,” said Lilly Rocha, Executive Director of the Latino Restaurant Association.

“Being recognized by Michelin is something I never imagined for Lugyá’h. To stand alongside the other restaurants in DINE Latino, all of us cooking for our communities, is what makes me proud,” said Chef Alfonso “Poncho” Martínez of Lugyá’h.

This morning at Maydan Market in West Adams, LRA hosted a press preview with seven chefs representing seven Latin American traditions. Consul Generals from Mexico, El Salvador, and other Latin American nations joined LRA leadership at the event.
