Two accomplished authors will share writing insights when Jade Chang and Ann Friedman appear at Vroman’s Bookstore on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
The free conversation, “How to Write a Book: A Conversation with Jade Chang & Ann Friedman,” celebrates Chang’s second novel “What a Time to be Alive” and explores both fiction and nonfiction writing processes.
Chang’s debut “The Wangs vs. the World” (2016) won the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award and was named a New York Times Editor’s Choice. Her latest work, published Sept. 30, follows protagonist Lola Treasure Gold through what Kirkus Reviews calls “grief, viral fame, and the commodification of belief.”
Friedman co-authored the New York Times bestseller “Big Friendship: How We Keep Each Other Close” (2020) and co-hosted the podcast “Call Your Girlfriend” from 2014-2022, which reached more than 50,000 devoted readers. She currently hosts The Midwives of Invention since 2018.
The authors will discuss “the unexpected overlaps between writing fiction and nonfiction, their own writing processes, and their current projects.”
“What a Time to be Alive is a sly, sexy work of art,” said Angela Flournoy, author of “The Turner House.” “Jade Chang has captured the true essence of Los Angeles, in all of its motley, messy beauty, with humor and heart.”
“How to Write a Book: A Conversation with Jade Chang & Ann Friedman” will run on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
