Julia Masli has a problem: she wants to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but she keeps winning comedy awards instead.

Her solution? Turn that contradiction into “ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,” an award-winning solo show running Oct. 15 through Nov. 9 at Pasadena Playhouse. The show runs one hour and 10 minutes with no intermission.

The premise is simple. Masli asks the audience “Prooobbbllleemmm???” and then improvises surreal solutions to whatever troubles they share. There’s no script, no safety net—just one performer on a mission to help.

The Guardian named “ha ha ha ha ha ha ha” the number one comedy show of the year in 2023. At Edinburgh Fringe 2023, Masli won the Comedian’s Choice Award for Best Show and joint Best Show at the inaugural (ISH) Edinburgh Comedy Awards. The show was also shortlisted for Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2024.

The Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company touring production features direction by performance artist Kim Noble and lighting design by Lily Woodford, who hid lights in Masli’s costume.

“ha ha ha ha ha ha ha” will run Oct. 15 through Nov. 9. Pasadena Playhouse, 39 S. El Molino Ave. in Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 356-7529 or visit https://www.pasadenaplayhouse.org/event/ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha/. Ticket prices: $15 – $99.
