The free performance, scheduled from 12:10 p.m. to 12:40 p.m., features pianist Connie Kim-Sheng, violinist Strauss Shi, and cellist Ben Fried—three musicians who founded their ensemble in late 2021.
“Deeply committed to connecting the music of the past and present, they believe it is essential to give music greater prevalence in their community by working with nonprofits and living composers,” according to the trio’s official biography.
Since forming, the ensemble has built an impressive record.
The group earned semifinalist honors at both the Coltman Chamber Competition and the Gianni Bergamo Chamber Music Competition, and reached the quarterfinals of the Fischoff Competition.
Within months of formation, they were invited to serve as a Heifetz Ensemble-in-Residence at the Heifetz International Music Institute in Virginia.
The trio has performed throughout Los Angeles “with much acclaim,” appearing “in venues, both offbeat and mainstream, in order to share their love of the chamber repertoire with many audiences.”
Beyond performing, the trio members serve as core faculty at Fried Music’s Pre-College Program in downtown Alhambra, which offers full scholarships focusing on chamber music and orchestra.
The Music at Noon series, presented by Friends of Music at Pasadena Presbyterian Church, has offered weekly Wednesday concerts for years at the church’s 585 E. Colorado Blvd. location in Pasadena.
Admission is free, though a voluntary offering will be accepted.
