The 2021/2022 Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is coming to Caltech’s campus on Wednesday, April 27, with a pre-show reception at Beckman Mall at 6:15 p.m.
The show itself will be at Beckman Auditorium and begins at 7 p.m.
Since 2001, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival has been one of the largest and most prestigious mountain festivals in the world. The main, or “mothership,” festival is held at the start of November each year in Banff, Canada, drawing some of the world’s best filmmakers and accomplished outdoor heroes to celebrate adventure, the environment, mountain culture and the outdoors through film.
Following the November festival, the best films head off on the Banff World Tour with stops in around 40 countries across the globe. This year, the Maple Program will be shown.
Caltech’s event, hosted by the Caltech Alpine Club, is one of 16 stops just in California for this year. The Alpine Club has been sponsoring the event since 2001.
At the event, expect to be with other local outdoor enthusiasts who love film and the outdoors, and arrive to a lively atmosphere, with time to enter competitions, pick up some goodies and perhaps enjoy a drink before the show.
The film program will be split in two, with a 30-minute intermission featuring a raffle drawing, knot tying competition, and brief slideshow with information about local sponsors.
Event tickets can be purchased at the event entrance, or by phone through the Keith Spalding ticket office, (626-395-4652). Students, with their Caltech ID, can purchase two tickets for $10 each. Tickets can alternatively be purchased online here, with additional fees.
Proof of vaccination status or a negative COVID test is required for entry to Beckman Auditorium. The event is open to the public, contingent upon adherence to Caltech’s COVID-19 policy.
