Pasadena Southwest Little League (PSWLL) recently opened the registration for the 2023 season and children as young as five years old can sign up.

Nicholas Smith, President of PSWLL said boys and girls up to age 14 who attend school within the borders or reside within the area’s boundaries are eligible to participate in PSWLL’s programs.

“The requirement is just an interest in tee-ball all the way up through intermediate baseball,” he said.“We are happy to welcome any new players.”

Registration for the tee-ball division for ages 5-6 closes on April 30, 2023 while registration for the other divisions, including Minor Coach Pitch division for ages 7-9, Minor Player Pitch division for ages 9-11, Major division for ages 11-12 and Juniors/Intermediate division for ages 13-14, will close earlier on January 5, 2023.

Player evaluations will be held on January 7 prior to the opening day, which will be on February 25.

PSWLL clinics to get participants prepped for the upcoming season will start on December 10, according to Smith. “We start those tomorrow and then we have a series of them for the next several Saturdays before the season actually starts.”

The clinics will be offered to participants from tee-ball age all the way up to juniors and will be hosted by PSWLL coaches and professional coaches outside the league.

The pandemic adversely impacted the operations of PSWLL in 2020 and 2021 but Smith noted the number of kids and teens registering for the league’s programs recently has been returning to pre pandemic levels.

“Last season in 2022, we actually had over 400 players in the league, which was very close to our registration in pre covid years. So we had an amazing season again, with over 400 players out on the field, which was fantastic.”

He expressed hopes enrollment will grow this season and PSWLL will get back to having as many teams out on the fields as it had in the past.

PSWLL which operates out of Allendale Park has been in existence for 70 years.

Smith said PSWLL pride itself on making sure that players will not only improve but  will have fun experiences on and off the field.

“Our board is a hundred percent volunteers. Moms, dads that are here to really make it an enjoyable experience at Stan Gray Field in Allendale Park. We have a great snack shack that they can go to. We have some professional announcers that come in that make the games really fun and they announce all levels of games. So that’s a great experience.”
