Benita Bike’s DanceArt will present a concert featuring the premiere of a new dance work at the Lineage Performing Arts Center in Pasadena this weekend, April 5 and 6.

The Sunland-based modern dance company will debut “From Where I Sit,” a series of vignettes that explore different emotional states through movement. The program will include four additional works from the company’s repertoire.

“From Where I Sit” consists of segments titled “Ascending,” “Tired of it All,” “Corruptor,” “Solace” and “On Edge,” each portraying different characters’ states of mind.

The concert will also feature “Off the Path,” “Aspects of Me,” “Griot Songs” and “For Rose,” a piece about the passing of choreographer Benita Bike’s mother.

Critics have described the company’s work as both modern and contemporary, known for “beautifully evocative choreography and lovely company of dancers.”

The performances are scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Lineage Performing Arts Center, located at 920 East Mountain Street.

Bike, the company’s artistic director, has presented dance works throughout the United States and Europe. Her company has a history of community outreach programs designed to make modern dance accessible to new audiences.
