New York Times bestselling author Christopher Moore will appear at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on Wednesday, May 21, to discuss his latest novel, “Anima Rising,” a work that combines historical fiction and supernatural elements in early 20th century Vienna.

Moore’s new book follows the story of famous painter Gustav Klimt, who discovers a woman’s seemingly lifeless body in Vienna’s Danube canal in 1911. After the woman unexpectedly revives, Klimt and his muse work to help her recover her memory, which includes encounters with Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and references to Victor Frankenstein.

The novel, described as “Poor Things meets Bride of Frankenstein,” represents Moore’s 19th published work and follows his 2022 release, “Razzmatazz.”

The ticketed in-store event at Vroman’s will include a signing line where Moore will personalize copies of the book. Each ticket includes entry and one signed copy of “Anima Rising.”

Moore, originally from Ohio, worked various jobs including roofer, grocery clerk, hotel night auditor, insurance broker, waiter, photographer and rock and roll DJ before publishing his first novel, “Practical Demonkeeping,” in 1992. His international bestsellers include “Lamb,” “A Dirty Job” and “You Suck.”

Now residing in San Francisco, Moore enjoys ocean kayaking, scuba diving, photography and painting when not writing.

Wednesday’s book-signing and discussion begins at 7 p.m.
