Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena is launching an intensive romance writing workshop series led by award-winning author Amy Spalding, with Thursday evening sessions from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The eight-week course, titled “From Meet Cute to HEA: Writing the Modern Romance Novel,” runs January through March, with no class scheduled for Feb. 27.
Participants will explore essential elements including genre conventions and tropes, building tension, and crafting effective dialogue through weekly lectures and interactive writing sessions.
Students will receive comprehensive weekly presentations and supplemental educational links, with the program designed to help writers develop complete novel outlines and sample scenes.
Spalding, a St. Louis native now based in Los Angeles, brings significant industry recognition to the instruction role. Her novel “For Her Consideration: An Enchanting and Memorable Love Story” achieved bestseller status.
The author received the 2023 Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award for her authentic representation of the LGBTQ+ community in her works.
Her novel “The Summer of Jordi Perez (and the Best Burger in Los Angeles)” earned distinguished recognition, being named among the best books of 2018 by NPR, the Boston Globe, and Kirkus Reviews.
Spalding holds a B.A. in Advertising & Marketing Communications from Webster University and a M.A. in Media Studies from The New School, with additional training in longform improv.
