Founded in 1904 and affiliated with the National Audubon Society, the organization’s mission is “to bring the excitement of birds to the community through birding, education and the conservation of bird habitat.” The free program is designed for families and beginners.
Based on similar Pasadena Audubon Society bird walks, participants can expect guided walks led by experienced birders focusing on local and native bird species. Past events have featured walks of approximately one mile on mostly flat terrain, with binoculars available to borrow and spotting scopes provided for easier viewing.
The organization has demonstrated ongoing partnerships with Pasadena-area cultural and civic institutions. A bilingual English and Spanish bird walk at the Gamble House on October 4 was guided by Jodhan Fine, an avid birder and Pasadena Audubon Society Community Engagement Liaison.
Los Angeles County, including Pasadena, is productive for birding, with wide habitat variety promoting species diversity. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and clothing appropriate for the weather.
The Santa Catalina Branch Library is one of the oldest branch libraries in the Pasadena system, with origins dating back to 1913. The branch hosts the system’s Armenian language collection and serves a diverse community with special collections in Armenian and Spanish.
