The Pasadena Unified School District invites students and families to the Black Education Expo on Friday, October 4 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena.

Founded by Victoria Williams of BWP Enterprises, the event spotlights Black academic achievement and links K-12 students and families with college and career information, community organizations, and educational resources. Organizers say the Expo “brings together educators, community leaders and families, with interactive opportunities designed to inform, inspire and connect.”

More than 70 exhibitors—including UCLA, California State University, Dominguez Hills, and a wide range of community organizations—will be on hand. Special activity zones include the Teen Zone powered by Intuit for Education, a Teen Led Career Panel with PCL Construction, and the Joy Zone by Love, Peace Spades. The BEE Book Corner, presented with the Kiwanis Foundation, will give away hundreds of free books. At 12:15 p.m., five scholarships will be awarded to BEE Scholars for excellence and service.

Workshops for parents and caregivers, hands-on STEAM demonstrations, and activities like face painting and arts and crafts round out the day. The event also provides information on homeschooling, mental health, financial literacy, career pathways, entrepreneurship, and health awareness.

Admission is free, but advance registration is required through Eventbrite. Past expos have attracted families from across Southern California and as far as Toronto. This year’s Expo is co-presented by Councilmember Tyron Hampton and supported by sponsors such as Russell Westbrook’s Why Not? Foundation, Citizens Business Bank, Intuit for Education, PCL Construction, Pasadena Community Foundation, Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation, IBEW Local 11, Athens Services and BWP Enterprises.

More than 40 community partners are supporting this year’s event, including Los Angeles Urban League, Pasadena NAACP, Black Girls Code, Fly Compton, Clergy Community Coalition, Special Needs Network SoCal, Divine Nine Organizations, the African American Parent Council, and the African American Parent Council of Pasadena Unified.

The Pasadena Convention Center is Metro accessible, with parking and hydration stations available. Organizers expect large attendance and have scheduled a virtual series for winter, a follow-up Expo on February 22 and additional pop-up events throughout Southern California.
