Instructors from Flower Duet, a Los Angeles-based floral design company teaching at The Huntington for over 15 years, will guide participant pairs in creating displays featuring orchids and camellia foliage alongside wintery blooms. The arrangements draw inspiration from collections with prestigious credentials: The Huntington’s camellia collection holds nearly 80 different species and is designated an International Camellia Garden of Excellence and Nationally Accredited collection. The orchid collection encompasses more than 10,000 specimens representing over 3,600 unique varieties.
Among the collection’s treasures is C. japonica ‘California,’ believed to be the oldest camellia on record in Southern California, which arrived in 1888 and was donated to The Huntington in 2003.
“What makes this collection stand out is not only its size and completeness, but also the number of rare and historic cultivars it contains,” said David MacLaren, Curator of Asian Gardens at The Huntington.
All supplies and materials are included. The workshop suits all levels with no previous experience necessary. Children must be at least seven years old and accompanied by an adult. Registration includes admission to The Huntington.
