Boys and Girls Club Pasadena’s Gala Benefits Pasadena/Altadena Youth Programs in the Aftermath of the Eaton Fire

The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena held its annual Black Tie & Burgers gala on Saturday, October 4, celebrating the power of the Club’s out-of-school programs and community resilience after the Eaton Fire. The gala’s theme “(Re)Building Great Futures” honored the Club’s vital work to meet the physical and social-emotional needs of Altadena/Pasadena kids – work made even more critical after the Eaton Fire destroyed the homes of over 100 Club families.

The 17th Annual Black Tie & Burgers gala event was held in the beautiful yard of Dr. Brian and Amber Lugo in South Pasadena with 250 guests attending. The evening was filled with inspirational moments, including performances by Club kids, remarks by Congresswoman Judy Chu, and moving speeches from Club teens and a former Club leader about the deep impact of the Club on their lives. Club kids also shared onstage their wishes for the community as Altadena/Pasadena rebuilds, and compelling videos featured the Club’s relief and recovery efforts.

Guests were treated to hot cheeseburger meals, live and silent auctions, music and dancing, and an opportunity to win the coveted “Wine Wagon” raffle. The event exceeded the Club’s fundraising goal of $350,000, to support programs focused on academic success, healthy lifestyles, life and workforce readiness, and good character and leadership development.

“It was such a heartfelt and inspiring evening. It’s been a very challenging year for the Club and for the kids and families we serve, so it was powerful to share what we’ve been through and

how we’ve stepped up for kids and families. Best of all, we were able to share this moment with supporters and friends of the Club, many of whom have partnered with us on our journey of recovery.” said Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena CEO, Lisa Cavelier.

Since 1937, the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena has enriched the lives of young people in our community, enabling them to reach their full potential as productive, caring, healthy, and responsible citizens. Serving more than 2,000 youth, ages 5 – 18 annually, BGCP focuses on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyle, Life and Workforce Readiness, and Good Character and Leadership. The Club experience fills the gap between school and home – year-round – providing a welcoming, safe and positive environment in which kids and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs, make friends and find encouragement with caring adults.
