The newly renovated gym at the Slavik Clubhouse becomes a comedy room on Friday, May 29, when the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena hosts the third annual “Pasadena Loves Comedy” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The lineup includes Dustin Ybarra, BT Kingsley and Parth Bhatt, with emerging local comics rounding out the bill. Wood-fired pizza from LA Pizzeria Company, beer, wine and nonalcoholic beverages will be available throughout.
Ybarra is a Texas-born stand-up and actor whose screen credits include “We Bought a Zoo,” “21 & Over,” “Ted 2,” “Us” and a recurring role on “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World.” The evening is co-presented by Cool Beans Comedy, the same company that has been booking the Boys & Girls Club’s CommUnity Night series, which aims to bring neighbors together while raising money for the club’s after-school and youth programs.
The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, founded in 1937, currently serves more than 1,500 children and teens annually across the Slavik and Mackenzie-Scott branches and an additional school site. Last year the Slavik Clubhouse became one of the most active community hubs in the immediate aftermath of the Eaton Fire, opening its doors to displaced families and distributing essential supplies. The club’s “Future Ready” initiative has since added an arts center, an ADA-accessible walkway, a technology lab and expanded mental health services to its youth programming.
Tickets are limited and benefit the club’s youth programs.
