Breakfast just got a deep-fried wake-up call.
Dog Haus has once again teamed up with food content creator and culinary stuntman Josh Elkin, this time to roll out a new menu monster: the Breakfast Burrito Chimichanga, a crispy, indulgent mash-up that Elkin notes, is “not for the faint of heart.”
Wrapped in a golden, deep-fried flour tortilla, the burrito is heavy—literally, man—and stuffed to the seams with bacon, sausage, Tater Tots, American cheese, eggs, miso ranch dressing, and a side of Canadian flair—maple Sriracha. It’s the kind of creation that demands a nap and possibly a call to emergency services.
“It’s a huge breakfast burrito filled with all the meats,” Elkin says. “And then we fry it like a chimichanga.”
“Call 9-1-1 now,” I offered.
It’s the third in a series of culinary collabs between Dog Haus and Elkin, who rose to fame in the early 2010s as co-founder of YouTube’s viral food show Epic Mealtime.
These days, he’s a full-time recipe dude and digital food influencer, sharing ideas daily on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube as @thejoshelkin.
“I’ve been doing this for about 15 years,” Elkin says. “I started on YouTube and now I work with restaurants to create fun, approachable dishes.”
That’s exactly how his relationship with Dog Haus began—at a food event where creative minds (and appetites) collided. “We became friends,” Elkin recalls. “I asked if they ever wanted to create a menu item together, and they said ‘yes.’”
A marriage made in Intensive Care.
The first result? The Hot & Ranchy, a split corn dog loaded with chipotle aioli, miso ranch, pickles and hot chicken seasoning. The second? The Big Hack, a grilled-cheese-laced Big Mac-meets-chopped-cheese hybrid.
But breakfast. That’s Elkin’s real jam.
“When I go for breakfast—which is often—I usually get a full plate with all the meats,” he says. “So why not put all that into a burrito… and then fry it?”
Why not indeed.
Born in Canada, Elkin brought a taste of home to this latest invention via the maple sriracha sauce—sweet, spicy, and made for dipping. It’s available at Dog Haus locations that also serve from their ‘Bad-Ass Breakfast Burritos menu, their sister concept devoted to all things a.m.
Not everything Elkin creates is meant to be eaten daily. “It’s about indulgence,” he says. “When you want to go for it, go for it.”
Just don’t ask him to leave out the eggs. Well, unless you’re that one person, like me.
“You want a breakfast burrito without eggs?” he laughs. “That’s like ordering eggs benedict without the eggs.”
Yes it is. And it’s beautiful.
For Elkin, food is about creativity, chaos, and community. And this chimichanga? It checks all three boxes—with a crunchy, meaty exclamation point.
FYI, I could not finish mine at first sitting. 48 hours later, after a short air fryer session, it was still just as delicious and impressive.
