On Thursday, The Pasadena Playhouse announced casting for its anticipated upcoming concert production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Follies.” The limited engagement, featuring a full 25-piece orchestra, will run for three performances from January 31 to February 1, 2025, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Rachel Bay Jones as Sally Durant Plummer and Tony Awardee Stephanie J. Block as Phyllis Rogers Stone will highlight the acclaimed ensemble. Jones won her 2017 Tony Award for “Dear Evan Hansen,” while Block received her Tony Award in 2019 for “The Cher Show.”

Grammy Award nominees Derrick Baskin, who received his Tony nomination for Broadway’s “Ain’t Too Proud,” and Aaron Lazar, veteran of 11 Broadway productions, will star as Buddy Plummer and Benjamin Stone, respectively.

The production will be directed by two-time Tony nominee Leigh Silverman (nominations for “Suffs” and “Violet”), with music direction by Darryl Archibald, whose credits include “Some Like It Hot” at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre. Casting is by Geoff Josselson Casting.

“Follies in Concert” is part of a two weekend long special event at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, following three performances of “Anything Goes in Concert” starring Jinkx Monsoon and Wayne Brady. The production will feature the complete musical score by Stephen Sondheim with book by James Goldman, presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

The Pasadena Playhouse, which has staged thousands of original productions since its 1917 founding, continues its mission of being a living force in its community, making theater for everyone. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Danny Feldman since 2016, the theater has been a training ground for actors and theatermakers who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry.
