Blank, currently the resident pops conductor for the Pasadena Symphony and Pops, headlines the “Melodia Mariposa Lecture Series: Maestro Larry Blank in Conversation” at Pasadena City College. Part of the PCC Foundation’s “Hometown Legends Series,” the evening promises direct mentorship.
Organizers note Blank will offer “advice for aspiring musicians” and explore “the joys and challenges of a career in music.” PCC faculty members Zac Matthews and Henry Shin will facilitate the dialogue, covering “his amazing life in music—from conducting his first Broadway show in his early twenties to conducting most of the world’s top orchestras.”
A figure described as “one of the most prolific and sought-after composers, conductors, and orchestrators in the entertainment business,” Blank’s credits include “Phantom of the Opera,” “Evita” and “Catch Me If You Can.” The free event begins at 7 p.m. with a reception, followed by the conversation and a dessert social.
Melodia Mariposa Lecture Series: Maestro Larry Blank in Conversation will run on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Westerbeck Recital Hall, 1570 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
