California Art Club artists revisit happy moments and endearing places that they covet from their past with the upcoming exhibition A Walk Down Memory Lane, on view from January 29 to May 22 at its gallery at the historical landmark The Old Mill.

Due to the Omicron surge, the opening reception with the exhibiting artists is being delayed until Saturday, February 26, when the California Art Club and The Old Mill are joining forces to present a family-friendly “Plein Air Day” for artists and art enthusiasts alike. The event, which will take place “en plein air” (in the open air) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free admission, will include a Paint/Sculpt-Out in the beautiful gardens surrounding The Old Mill and an Outdoor Art Market.

During the Paint/Sculpt-Out, CAC artists will create works inspired by the lush native flowers and plants in the Old Mill gardens, as art enthusiasts watch and gain insights into their creative processes for this popular category of art, which will be featured in the California Gardens exhibition that unveils at The Old Mill in May.

Art stations will be set up around the grounds for attendees to draw and paint alongside the organization’s artists.

The Outdoor Art Market will provide an opportunity for art enthusiasts to acquire new works and enjoy reduced pricing on surplus art supplies, gently used art books, frames and more.

“In presenting A Walk Down Memory Lane at the California Art Club Gallery at The Old Mill, we reminisce on our collective pasts with 30 original paintings that take a nostalgic look at special times and special places,” says Eire Hoke, manager of exhibitions for the century-old arts organization. “Our journey along this imaginary path will be enhanced with the multitude of memory-making activities planned for our February 26 “Plein Air Day,” she added.

All the participating artists in A Walk Down Memory Lane are juried members of the California Art Club and include Robert Akers, Cliff Barnes, Brian Belfield, Nanette Biers, Larry Cannon, Ken Christensen, Martha Cowan, Celeste DeCoudres, Esther Engelman, Lynne Fearman, Marian Fortunati, Laurie Hendricks, Carolyn Hesse-Low, Debra Holladay, John Kosta, Chuck Kovacic, Yi-Ching Lee, Elaine Mathews, Mikyoung Osburn, W. Jason Situ, Robert Steele, Brenda Swenson, Sonya Terpening, Milly Tsai, Durre Waseem and Sharon Weaver.

The works are available for acquisition and a portion of the proceeds benefit the California Art Club’s educational programs.

Due to the pandemic, temporary gallery hours for the California Art Club Gallery at The Old Mill, located at 1120 Old Mill Road in San Marino, are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

After the opening of A Walk Down Memory Lane, the artwork may be viewed online at californiaartclub.org/memorylane.
