Hanahan, named the number one Rising Star on Alto Saxophone in DownBeat’s 2025 Critics Poll, will be joined by tenor saxophonist Chuck Manning of Los Angeles and guitarist Zach Caplinger. The concert will feature a tribute to jazz legends Jim McNeely, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter.
Hanahan earned international recognition with her debut album, “Among Giants,” which received a five-star review in DownBeat Magazine and was named one of DownBeat’s Best Albums of the Year for 2024. She is a member of the Grammy-award-winning Mingus Big Band and was named one of NPR Jazz Night in America’s 30 Under 30 Youngbloods.
Manning brings a dual career spanning nearly five decades as a tenor saxophonist and a process engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Caplinger is a professor of Jazz Guitar at California State University, Fullerton. The San Diego Troubadour described him as “one of the finest young jazz guitar players in Southern California.”
