The California Institute of Technology will open its research laboratories to the public for Explore Caltech 2025, a free science festival on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Beckman Mall in Pasadena.

Approximately 20 hands-on research booths will offer visitors direct access to scientists from all six academic divisions and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Organizers expect more than 1,500 attendees—nearly double last year’s turnout of 800 visitors.

The festival features 10-minute TED-style talks in the Beckman Laboratories of Behavioral Biology lecture hall.

Physics graduate student Elsie Loukiantchenko will explain “Harvesting the Sun from Space: Beaming Solar Power to Earth” at 10:30 a.m.

“Meet a Scientist” panel discussions will take place in Beckman Hall throughout the day.

The event originated in 2018 as “Science for March,” drawing more than 2,000 attendees before suspending operations from 2020 through 2023.

The festival welcomes children of all ages and will include food trucks and on-campus dining.

Parking in Caltech lots is free on weekends.

No tickets or reservations are required, though an RSVP option is available.

Explore Caltech 2025 will run on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Beckman Mall, 1200 E. California Blvd. in Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 395-6811 or visit https://www.caltech.edu/campus-life-events/calendar/explore-caltech-2025-1. Admission: Free.
