Dave Stone was walking through Altadena’s burned neighborhoods after the January 7 Eaton Fire when the cars stopped him cold.

“You notice two things: cars and chimneys, but in particular it was the cars for me,” Stone recalled.

“It really wrecked me and broke my heart, and so I thought, what could I do to help people? And, that’s how this started.”

Stone created the Instagram account @not_ev_altadena to document vehicles destroyed in the fire, posting regular stories about the burned cars and the people who owned them.

That effort grew into Altadena Cars & Coffee, a free weekly Saturday morning meetup now entering its second year.

The regular weekly meet is held at the Bulgarini Gelato parking lot, 749 E. Altadena Drive, drawing classic car enthusiasts, fire survivors and neighbors every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

ABC7 described the weekly event as “a form of therapy for residents,” noting that “behind every greeting at Altadena Cars and Coffee is a deeper understanding.”

The event is free and open to all.
