High above Los Angeles, where astronomers once peered into distant galaxies, music lovers will gather Sunday, Oct. 5, for an intimate chamber music experience that literally reaches for the stars.

Mt. Wilson Observatory’s Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome series presents “Musical Friends,” featuring an ensemble of winds and strings. The unique venue—a working observatory dome—creates an acoustic and visual experience unlike any traditional concert hall.

Violist Jonah Sirota has curated the program, which includes chamber works by Hans Gál, Benjamin Britten and Sergei Prokofiev. The performance celebrates the interplay between wind and string instruments in repertoire spanning early 20th century to modern compositions.

Two performances are scheduled at 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with tickets priced at $60. The historic Mt. Wilson Observatory has been advancing astronomical research since 1904 and now opens its doors to bring music and science together in an extraordinary setting.

The concert offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience chamber music in a remarkable venue, where the dome’s unique acoustics enhance the intimate musical dialogue between performers.

Musical Friends will run on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Mt. Wilson Observatory, 100 Mt. Wilson Circle Rd., Mount Wilson, CA. For more information, call (626) 214-8030 or visit https://www.mtwilson.edu/events/concert100525/. Ticket prices: $60.
