Cinco De Mayo at The Rose Bowl Set to Return For 2022

Published on Mar 10, 2022

Today, the historic Rose Bowl Stadium announced that Cinco de Mayo at the Rose Bowl, a family celebration, will take place on Sunday, May 1st. The free family friendly event will be an opportunity for the community to come together to enjoy and appreciate Pasadena’s rich Latino culture and traditions.

Ticket reservations will open up to the public on Wednesday, March 16th through Eventbrite, here.

Mayor Victor Gordo and Alice Mijares Recendez whose mother, Jesucita Mijares founded Mijares Restaurant in Pasadena in 1920, will be honored as the inaugural Cinco de Mayo Co-Grand Marshals. Both have a long heritage and history in Pasadena which makes them the perfect fit for this honor.

“I was involved in the Cinco de Mayo event 20 years ago and to bring it back to the Rose Bowl Stadium this year as part of the Stadium’s Centennial Celebration is really special,” said Mayor Victor Gordo. “We brought this event back with our Pasadena residents and families in mind, to find new ways to continue to celebrate and honor heritage, family and tradition.”

In partnership with the City of Pasadena, Consulado de Mexico, and support from the Pasadena Latino Employee Association (PLEA), families will be able to enjoy traditional music featuring live performances from mariachi to Sonora Dinamita, Folklorico dancers, watch a soccer tournament and enjoy an active children’s play area, stroll an arts and culture area featuring local artists and learn about local area resources and services from a health and wellness area.

As part of its Centennial Celebration, there will be tours of the historic stadium, including the original 1922 Locker Room, Court of Champions, the Terry Donahue Pavilion, the current UCLA Locker and more. There will also be a Darryl Dunn 5k Walk & Run as part of the event in tribute to the Rose Bowl Stadium’s CEO / General Manager, Darryl Dunn who is set to retire on June 30th of this year.

“Cinco de Mayo at the Rose Bowl gives our community a wonderful opportunity to enjoy all that our local treasure has to offer,” said Councilmember Tyron Hampton. “We look forward to an amazing day focusing on family, culture and community.”
