Playhouse Village Park is closing out its free ’90s movie run on August 28 with The Sandlot.
The lawn at 701 E. Union St. opens at 7 p.m., and the film starts around 8, once the sun has finished with the San Gabriels. Before that: free popcorn, photo ops, and arts and crafts, plus movie trivia with prizes, organizers say. Seating is first come, first served, and an RSVP is appreciated but does not hold a spot — the good middle of the lawn belongs to whoever arrives at seven with a blanket and a plan.
A word on chairs. Anything with a seat over nine inches or a back over thirty-one goes to the rear or the edges, which is less a rule than a kindness: nobody wants to be the reason a nine-year-old misses Smalls at the plate. Wheelchairs are exempt.
The series is Playhouse Village’s thirtieth-birthday victory lap, presented by the Playhouse Village Foundation with Arash Danialifar and drawn, organizers say, from the decade that produced the district. Clueless ran on the 21st. The Sandlot is the closer — a 1993 movie about a summer that stretches a beat too long, screened on the last real Friday of one.
Get there at seven. You’re killing me, Smalls.
