Matt Folliott’s journey from Toronto’s comedy scene to voicing children’s cartoon characters took an unexpected detour through improv festivals in Beijing and Vietnam — and on Monday, Aug. 25, that international experience lands at a 75-seat Silver Lake theater for one night of unscripted laughs.

The show features David Donnella from UCB LA’s harold team Local Tycoon and indie improv troupe Money Talks Bullshit Walks, joining forces with Alana Johnston, a veteran of “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” who regularly performs at the legendary Largo at the Coronet venue.

The lineup also includes Favorite Cousin, performers who have graced stages at the Edinburgh Improv Festival and have participated in the Black Women in Comedy Festival, and writer-performer Sabrina Jalees, whose television credits span hit shows including “Search Party,” “Fraggle Rock” and “#1 Happy Family USA,” with appearances on JFL, “Black Mirror” and “Baroness Von Sketch Show.”

Folliott brings international experience to the Silver Lake venue, having taught and performed improv comedy worldwide while lending his voice to children’s cartoon favorites like “PJ Masks,” “Bakugan” and “Clifford the Big Red Dog.” Television audiences may recognize him from the comedy series “Workin’ Moms” and “Baroness Von Sketch Show,” where he appeared as “Masseur 2.”

The Lyric Hyperion Theater at 2106 Hyperion Ave. offers an intimate setting, with doors opening at 6:40 p.m. and a strict policy turning away late arrivals 20 minutes after the 7:00 p.m. start time.

Free street parking is available on Lyric Avenue and Griffith Park Boulevard.

“Matt Folliott & Friends” will run on Monday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. PDT. Lyric Hyperion Theater & Cafe, 2106 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles. For more call (323) 796-2299 or visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/matt-folliott-friends-tickets-1489400580229. Tickets: $15 pre-sale, $20 day-of.
