Comedians who have appeared on the Tonight Show and Comedy Central will perform at the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena later this month — not at a comedy club, but inside the gymnasium of the organization’s Slavik Clubhouse on East Del Mar Boulevard.
The show, called “Pasadena Loves Comedy,” is the organization’s third annual CommUnity Night, according to a Boys & Girls Club press release. The Friday, May 29 event pairs a lineup of professional stand-up acts with wood-fired pizza, drinks, and raffle prizes, with proceeds supporting the club’s youth programs across Pasadena and Altadena.
The headliners carry national credentials. Dustin Ybarra has appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and in television series including Gotham, The Goldbergs, and Californication, along with films such as We Bought a Zoo and Us. BT Kingsley’s stand-up special “Next Level” aired on Comedy Central and was produced by Kevin Hart. Parth Bhatt, a comedian who has performed at the Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena and is associated with Cool Beans Comedy, rounds out the named lineup. Local emerging comics will also perform.
The event is co-presented by Cool Beans Comedy, a Pasadena-based comedy organization founded in 2009 that operates stand-up classes and shows at the Ice House Comedy Club on North Mentor Avenue.
The show takes place in the recently renovated Lakers gym at the Slavik Clubhouse, located at 3230 E. Del Mar Blvd., according to the press release. Guests will eat wood-fired pizza from Los Angeles Pizzeria Company, a mobile catering outfit, and choose from beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. All ticket levels include food and drinks. Raffle prizes include restaurant gift cards and merchandise, according to the press release.
The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena was founded in 1937 and now operates five locations — the Slavik and Mackenzie-Scott clubhouses, the Dena Teen Center, Odyssey Charter School–North in Altadena, and a site at Kings Villages on North Fair Oaks Avenue. The organization serves more than 1,500 youth ages 5 to 18 annually, with programs focused on academic success, healthy lifestyles, character and leadership development, and workforce readiness.
The CommUnity Night series began in 2024, when the organization hosted a trivia-themed event at Whimsy in Pasadena.
Tickets and sponsorships start at $40 and are available at bgcpcomedy.givesmart.com. Event sponsors include LittleMachineShop.com, Rick’s Custom Shutters and Blinds, the Knapp Family, Lisa and Bruno Cavelier, and Phillip and Anne Lee. For nearly nine decades, the blue doors on Del Mar Boulevard have opened for kids. On May 29, they open for the comedians, too.
