The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge (CCLCF) has launched its Fall 1 session of classes running from August 25 to October 18. The nonprofit organization, established in 1949, offers a variety of new and expanded programs designed to serve community members of all ages across Pasadena, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Glendale, and surrounding areas.
We proudly provide a place where all ages can meet, grow, learn, and thrive,” said Executive Director Betsy Ferguson. “Our classes, workshops, camps, events, speakers and volunteer opportunities enhance the well-being of the community throughout the year.”
The Fall 1 session introduces several new programs, including a Glass Arts program unique to the Los Angeles area. This inclusive and affordable program offers glass fusing, flameworking, and bead making classes for teens and adults through both one-day workshops and four-week courses.
CCLCF’s nationally renowned ceramics program continues to operate seven days a week with five kilns. The program serves children as young as five with themed activities, introduces teens to wheel techniques in the main studio, and provides adults with popular introductory classes covering both wheel and hand-building methods.
The performing arts department has expanded with the Foothills Community Choir, which recently completed its first successful concert. New acting classes include Actor’s Workout, Acting for Kids, Acting for Teens, Improv, and Screen Acting, while dance offerings feature Ballroom, Belly Dancing, and Tap.
Youth sports programming has grown significantly beyond traditional offerings like baseball, basketball, dodgeball, soccer, and flag football. New additions include Jump Roping, Cheerleading, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Track & Field, and Volleyball.
Senior citizens can participate in the “Fun for 50+” program featuring Bingo & Brunch, Speaker Series, Senior Socials, ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out), Book Club, Ballet, Tai Chi, and Balance Fit classes. New adult courses include Chair Yoga, Zumba Gold, ME Life Bootcamp, Gardening Club, and a one-day workshop on Writing Your Novel.
Students aged 11 to 14 can join the Model United Nations (MUN) program, which meets on the first and third Tuesdays monthly from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program prepares participants for high school MUN activities by teaching UN procedures, mock deliberations, and public speaking skills.
Children can explore their creativity in new classes like “Mastering Fine Arts,” where they create masterpieces with various art mediums; “Poetry Slam,” a spoken word and poetry workshop; and “Beauty of Science,” which blends scientific and artistic learning.
The Community Center also houses an award-winning preschool for approximately 100 children in a converted house across the parking lot from the main facility. Preschoolers can attend private enrichment classes at the main center after their school day and return to the preschool for extended care.
Throughout the year, CCLCF hosts fundraisers including ceramic sales in May and December, a Cornhole Tournament in May, Family Bingo over Memorial Day weekend, and the Thanksgiving 5K Run and Food Drive, now in its 32nd year.
The Community Center operates six sessions annually: Fall 1 (August-October), Fall 2 (October-December), Winter (January-February), Spring 1 (March-May), Spring 2 (May-June), and Summer (June-August).
