When comedian Cristela Alonzo takes the stage at the Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena on Thursday, August 7, every ticket sold will go directly to defending immigrant families facing deportation.
“I am a first-generation American born to an undocumented mother that taught me to love this country,” Alonzo has said.
“I believe it is my duty to give back and fight so that everyone can get the same thing my family got: a chance.”
The Room Temperature Show, scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., will donate 100% of ticket sales to the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, which provides legal services to approximately 30,151 detained and non-detained children and adults annually.
Alonzo, born Jan. 6, 1979, in Hidalgo, Texas, made history as the first Latina to create, produce, write and star in her own network sitcom, “Cristela,” which aired on ABC from 2014 to 2015.
She became the first Latina lead in a Disney Pixar film when she voiced Cruz Ramirez in “Cars 3” (2017).
Immigrant Defenders Law Center describes itself as “a next-generation social justice law firm that defends our immigrant communities against injustices in the immigration system.”
The organization “provides full-scale deportation defense, legal representation, legal education, and social services.”
The Ice House Comedy Club, opened in 1960 and billed as “the oldest comedy club in the nation,” underwent a $4 million renovation and reopened in 2023.
