Cruel World Festival Takes Over the Arroyo Saturday With a Symphony of Icons

Published on May 20, 2023

Saturday afternoon, the verdant sprawl of Brookside outside the Rose Bowl promises a unique sonic feast.

Goldenvoice, the masterminds behind Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival, revives the Cruel World Festival, a symphony of legendary musicians set against the picturesque backdrop of the Arroyo Secop on a day that should be sunny and pleasant.

From the grandeur of Siouxsie’s haunting melodies to the raw energy of Iggy Pop, and from the punk ethos of Billy Idol to the post-punk resonance of Love and Rockets, the lineup is a testament to the transformative power of music that has shaped generations. Adam Ant, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Human League, and a plethora of other established acts are set to take the stage, promising an afternoon of nostalgic euphoria.

The festival marks Siouxsie’s first North American performance in 15 years. The English singer, revered for her distinctive sound, last delighted fans with her debut solo album, Mantaray, in 2007. In a delightful twist of fate, Iggy Pop, whose iconic song “The Passenger” was famously covered by Siouxsie, will also grace the stage. Moreover, Love and Rockets are set for a grand reunion, having last performed together in 2008.

The festival offers various ways to elevate the experience. From the GA+ pass, boasting a dedicated entry lane, quick merchandise access, and an exclusive lounge, to the VIP and Clubhouse options, Cruel World Festival caters to extra indulgences.

The Clubhouse pass holders will enjoy a posh festival experience from a centrally located, air-conditioned sanctuary offering panoramic views of the festival grounds, and exclusive access to an intimate viewing area at both stages.

The complete lineup, listed in alphabetical order, includes ABC, Adam Ant, Animotion, Aurat, Billy Idol, Boy Harsher, Echo & The Bunnymen, Ela Minus, Gang of Four, Gary Numan, Glass Spells, GVLLOW, The Human League, Iggy Pop, Love and Rockets, Modern English, Molchat Doma, Riki, Siouxsie, The Motels, The Soft Moon, The Vapors, Twin Tribes, and Urban Heat.

Tickets are still available and can be secured at www.CruelWorldFest.com. A payment plan is offered, starting at only $49.99 down. For more details about the festival, the lineup, and the various pass options, visit the official website.
