Cultural Thursdays – A Virtual Exhibit Tour of “Bob Baker’s Marionette Theater: 60 Years of Joy & Wonder”

The Pasadena Senior Center is hosting a virtual tour of the current exhibit at Glendale’s Forest Lawn Museum about Bob Baker who began creating puppets as a child in the 1930s, on Thursday, Dec. 1, starting at 2 p.m. 

Bob Baker opened his permanent marionette theater in 1963. He also produced puppets for TV and film, collaborating with Walt Disney, Elvis Presley, and Steven Spielberg, among others. 

The exhibition looks at the rich history of the theater and its contributions to puppetry and popular culture. The virtual tour is presented by James Fishburne, Director of Forest Lawn Museum.

Dr. Fishburn earned his Ph.D. in Italian Renaissance art history from UCLA in 2014. He has taught courses on ancient Roman, Renaissance, and Baroque art history at UCLA, Pierce College, Valley College, and California State University, Long Beach. From 2015 through 2018, he worked at the Getty Research Institute where he developed and implemented programming for the Scholars Department. 

Dr. Fishburn joined Forest Lawn in 2018 and has curated multiple exhibitions, including “The Elevated Eye: Aerial Photography Past and Present” and “Judson Studios: Stained Glass from Gothic to Street Style.”
