The Tournament of Roses and its partners have extended the deadline of their second Dia de los Muertos art contest to Wednesday, organizers said.

The contest, which is being hosted in concert with the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles and the Lucille & Edward R. Roybal Foundation, was initially scheduled to end Friday. But submissions will now be accepted through Wednesday, the Tournament of Roses said in a written statement.

Winners in three age categories will receive scholarships and gift cards, organizers said. The age divisions are 4 through 8, 9 through 13 and 13 through 18. The winning selections, which will be announced on Oct. 30, will be displayed at the Tournament House.

Ideas for submissions include creating a traditional Dia de los Muertos ofrenda, or altar; creating a floral arrangement, building a sugar skull, face painting, writing or other artistic representations.

To enter the contest, artists should submit still images or videos of their works, along with a brief description, via email to marketing@tournamentofroses.com. Submissions should include the artists’ names, grade levels and contact information.

More information on the competition can be found online at tournamentofroses.com/about/diadelosmuertos.
