As COVID-19 restrictions gradually lift throughout Los Angeles County, Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge said this year it will once again be offering its traditional holiday events, “Carved” and “Enchanted Forest of Light.”
“Carved,” Descanso’s unique take on Halloween, will be open Oct. 11-31 and feature exciting new displays and experiences.
“Enchanted Forest of Light” will be held from Nov. 21 through Jan. 10, with a preview party on Nov. 20.
“We were heartbroken to cancel our holiday events last year, but it was the expedient thing to do,” said Descanso Gardens Executive Director Juliann Rooke. “Now that L.A. County has declared it safe, we’re thrilled to be able to once again host our favorite events, following all guidelines as applicable.”
During “Carved,” a family-friendly event for all ages, thousands of carved pumpkins will line a one-mile walk through the Camellia Forest and Oak Grove for three weeks. Along with the pumpkins, there will be new oversized sculptures made of sticks and other natural materials and interactive animated totems.
The event will also feature pumpkin carving demonstrations, a pumpkin house, a hay maze, themed food and beverage and picnic style seating to help create a fun harvest festival ambiance.

New this year to “Enchanted Forest of Light” will be an entire town made of magical stained-glass creations built in the Rose Garden by contemporary sculptor Tom Fruin.
Returning this year will be sparkling and swirling installations from HYBYCOZO on the Main Lawn, “Flower Power” on the Promenade, and exquisite lighting effects in the Ancient Forest.
Tickets for both events will go on sale in September for Descanso Gardens members, and in October to the general public.
