Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge announced the return of its popular Halloween event, ‘Carved’, set to run from Oct. 4 through Oct. 30, 2024. The event transforms the gardens into a nighttime wonderland of illuminated pumpkin art and autumn-themed installations delighting children and adults.

Visitors can expect to see an array of jack-o’-lanterns, giant pumpkin sculptures, and decorated model trains as they stroll through the gardens. New additions this year include wood spirits carved by artist Chainsaw Jenna and an installation called “Rhizome” by artists Tom and Lien Dekyvere.

“Carved has always been one of our most exciting events, and this year we’ve added even more for visitors to enjoy,” said Juliann Rooke, CEO of Descanso Gardens. Rooke emphasized that the event celebrates artistry, community, and outdoor enjoyment.

The event will be open nightly from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with timed entry slots available every half hour. Ticket prices for adults range from $28 to $38 for members and $35 to $45 for non-members. Children’s tickets (ages 2-12) cost $18 to $23 for members and $25 to $30 for non-members. Children under 2 are admitted free.

Descanso Gardens, founded in 1953, is a member-supported garden accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The garden is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with regular admission prices separate from the ‘Carved’ event.

Organizers advise that ‘Carved’ tickets must be purchased in advance through the Descanso Gardens website. The event will proceed rain or shine, and tickets are non-refundable.
