Every line spoken on stage comes directly from Dickens’ 1843 novella—nothing added, nothing cut, nothing modernized.
“A Christmas Carol is the greatest story of redemption ever written,” Elliott said, and his stage adaptation honors that conviction through absolute textual fidelity. It’s a dramaturgical gambit that distinguishes A Noise Within’s production from countless freely adapted versions, proving Victorian prose can speak directly to contemporary audiences without translation.
The production opens Saturday, November 29, with Elliott co-directing alongside Julia Rodriguez-Elliott.
“We make new discoveries each time we do it,” Elliott said.
Geoff Elliott and Henri Lubatti alternate performances as Ebenezer Scrooge, joined by A Noise Within resident artists Kasey Mahaffy as Bob Cratchit, Riley Shanahan as Marley, Trisha Miller as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Anthony Adu as the Ghost of Christmas Present.
Rodriguez-Elliott notes the production “offers such a great balance between a spooky ghost story, and the joy and exuberance that comes with Scrooge’s transformation,” making it accessible to children ages five and up. Lush original music, costumes, and theatrical lighting create spectacle while remaining true to Dickens’ words, with holiday crafts and post-show photo opportunities enhancing the family experience.
Tickets start at $51.50, with student tickets from $25. The December 4 performance features Pay What You Choose pricing starting at $10, and the November 30 “Relaxed Performance” accommodates audiences with sensory sensitivities.
A Christmas Carol will run from Saturday, Nov. 29, 7:00 p.m. at A Noise Within, 3352 E. Foothill Blvd., Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 356-3100 or visit anoisewithin.org. Ticket: $10 – $72.75
