The performance combines music from Rossini’s “La Cenerentola,” Massenet’s “Cendrillon,” and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” sung in English with live piano accompaniment. The production is “a beacon of hope for LA Wildfire affected children, families and their schools,” according to Pacific Opera Project’s official statement. The January 7 Eaton Fire destroyed 9,000+ structures and displaced 23,000 residents, severely damaging or destroying five Pasadena Unified School District schools and impacting 14,000 Pasadena Unified School District students.
The programming is “funded in part by a generous gift from Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation.” The event represents a public-private partnership between the nonprofit arts organization, the education foundation, and the municipal library system, offering cultural enrichment and emotional restoration during community recovery.
