African drummer Chazz Ross will be performing on Thursday, July 21, at Charles White Park in Altadena and guide the audience on a colorful musical safari created with their own hands.

Participants will create jungle sounds and play simple rhythms while singing together in this event, “Discover the Universal Rhythm with Chazz Ross,” sponsored by the Altadena Library District, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Ross will also discuss the history and the benefits of drumming.

Clarence “Chazz” Ross teaches African drums and regularly performs at the LA Opera, Aquarium of the Pacific, Skirball Cultural Center, Riverside Drum, Mask and Dance Festival, and has performed at the Juneteenth Celebration-Santa Monica as well as for the Honor Thy Father Awards, Burbank City Council, the San Bernardino County Fair and others.

He has shared stages with Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Phil Perry, Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Eddie Griffin, Ray Brooks, and many other artists.

This participatory program will have the audience realizing that the “heartbeat” is the universal unifying rhythm that is always present with them – they only have to look inside.

The program is free to attend.
