Discover Your Passion: Free Mental Wellness Workshop Comes to Bob Lucas Library

Altadena's newly renovated library offers mental health support for older adults navigating post-fire recovery
Published on Dec 2, 2025

A free workshop designed to help older adults reconnect with purpose and wellbeing comes to the Bob Lucas Memorial Library on Thursday, December 4, at 10 a.m. “Discover Your Passion” will guide participants in reflecting on feelings of joy and happiness to rediscover purpose.

Monique Juarez, a United Mental Health Promoter with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health serving Service Area 3, will present strategies for navigating life events. The workshop is designed to contribute positively to overall health and wellbeing.

The Altadena Library District is sponsoring the free program. Interested attendees can call (626) 798-0833 or visit altadenalibrary.org/programs for more information.

The session takes place at the Bob Lucas Memorial Library, 2659 Lincoln Avenue, in Altadena. The venue reopened August 16 after a $4.5 million renovation that added 1,000 square feet of space. The renewal holds particular significance following the devastating Eaton Fire in January, which destroyed over 9,400 structures in Altadena and killed 19 people.

The library honors journalist Robert “Bob” Lucas, who advocated for accessible library services after moving to Altadena in 1971.

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health’s Promoters Program aims to reduce mental health stigma throughout Los Angeles County, particularly in historically underserved communities, by increasing awareness and improving access to culturally appropriate resources. Mental Health Promoters serve as a bridge between the community and mental health services.

The workshop is part of an ongoing series of mental health programming for older adults at Altadena Library.
