A new Disney ticket pricing policy will cost Young Stars Theatre Academy more than $8,000 when it presents Disney’s “Newsies JR.” next month in Pasadena—a significant hit for the nonprofit youth theater organization.

Disney’s mandate caps tickets for its junior musicals at $15, forcing Young Stars Theatre to slash its typical $25 ticket price for the production opening Friday, October 10, at the Fremont Centre Theatre. The organization is now asking patrons to add donations when purchasing tickets.

“Every bit helps us keep bringing high-quality training for the children and productions to our community,” the organization said.

The 60-minute show is a junior adaptation of the 2012 Tony Awards-winning Broadway musical “Newsies,” itself based on Disney’s 1992 film “Newsies” about the historic newsboys’ strike of 1899.

With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by Harvey Fierstein, the production follows newsboy Jack Kelly as he rallies fellow newsies against exploitative publishers.

Young Stars Theatre Academy’s performers range from ages six to 18 and participate in year-round workshops and camps culminating in public performances. The production will run weekends through October 26, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 and 6 p.m.

Disney’s “Newsies JR.” will run Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m. Fremont Centre Theatre, 1000 Fremont Avenue, South Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 269-3609 or visit https://ysta.ludus.com/index.php?sections=events. Tickets: $15.
