Naomi Hirahara and Gigi Pandian

Authors Naomi Hirahara and Gigi Pandian will discuss their books, “An Eternal Lei” and “Under Lock & Skeleton Key,” at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on Thursday, March 24, 7 p.m.

In “An Eternal Lei,” Leilani Santiago finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation that endangers her family and friends after saving a mysterious woman wearing a lei from drowning in Waimea Bay. She must learn of this woman’s identity and connections to others on the island to save herself and those dearest to her.

Padian’s “Under Lock & Skeleton Key” tells the story of  a disastrous accident derailing Tempest Raj’s career, and life, leading her back to her childhood home in California to comfort herself with her grandfather’s Indian home-cooked meals. Every day there brings her closer to the inevitable: working for her father’s company, Secret Staircase Construction, which specializes in bringing the magic of childhood to all by transforming clients’ homes with sliding bookcases, intricate locks, backyard treehouses, and hidden reading nooks. When Tempest visits her dad’s latest renovation project, her former stage double is discovered dead inside a wall that’s supposedly been sealed for more than a century. Fearing she was the intended victim, it’s up to Tempest to solve this seemingly impossible crime.

Hirahara is a writer and journalist who edited the largest Japanese-American daily newspaper, The Rafu Shimpo, for several years. Her novel “Clark and Division” was a New York Times Best Mystery Novel of 2021. She is currently a writer of both fiction and non-fiction works and the Edgar Award-winning Mas Arai mystery series.

Pandian is a New York bestselling author popularly known for the “Jones Treasure Hunt” series, “The Elusive Elixir,” and “The Accidental Alchemist” series. She was born to a family of cultural anthropologists from Southern India and New Mexico.

The discussion is a ticketed event at the Vroman’s Bookstore event space on the second level at 695 E. Colorado Blvd.

Tickets include one entry and a copy of either “An Eternal Lei” or “Under Lock & Skeleton Key.” Books will be handed out at check-in.
