Costumed dogs and their owners will gather October 26 for Playhouse Village Park’s Howl-o-ween celebration, showcasing the community foundation’s efforts to enliven downtown Pasadena.
The free event runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 1.04-acre park, featuring a costume parade and contest with local vendor activities including dog tarot readings and pup painting sessions.
“This free spooktacular event presented by Playhouse Village Foundation features a costume parade and contests with prizes, treat stations & pup bites, photo-ops, pet caricatures, and more fun activities for dogs and humans,” according to the Playhouse Village Association.
Though costume contest entries have closed, competition proceeds with categories for best small dog, best big dog and best group costumes. Participating vendors include Anaya’s Pup Taco Combo, Anytime Fitness Mini Agility Course, Archetype Yoga Dog Tarot Reading and VP Salon SpawDay, among others.
The park opened with the Van Halen Stage, children’s play area and dog runs.
Phil Hawkey, chair of Playhouse Village Foundation Board of Directors, outlined the organization’s mission when it launched: “Our new Foundation will help kick-start important public improvement projects and activities that sustain a vibrant downtown community and economy.”
The event demonstrates the foundation’s continued work building community connections while supporting local businesses.
