Emmy Winner Behind Disney’s Hit Series to Share Creative Process with Local Teens

Creator of “Star vs. The Forces of Evil” will reveal animation secrets during free Altadena Library presentation

Emmy-winning animator Daron Nefcy will reveal her creative process this weekend at the Altadena Library during a free presentation for young storytellers.

Nefcy, creator of “Star vs. The Forces of Evil,” will show her process of putting together the hit series Saturday, Oct. 4, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The presentation includes Q&A and signing for teens and tweens, though families are welcome.

“Star vs. The Forces of Evil” made television history as Disney XD’s most-watched animated series debut, drawing 1.2 million total viewers.

The show, which combines comedy and magic, ran for four seasons from 2015 to 2019, spanning 77 episodes and airing all over the world.

At 29, Nefcy became only the second woman to create an original Disney Television Animation series and the first since 1997.

Her work earned recognition from Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list for 2015 and Variety’s “10 Animators to Watch.”

Born in Los Angeles in 1985, Nefcy graduated from CalArts in 2009.

She later won a 2023 Emmy Award for directing Netflix’s “We the People” series.
